About this artwork
Gémeaux refers to twins. These are non-identical of course, but explore the relationship of two separate canvases; the title is also a homage to the brilliant Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu, whose own 'Gémeaux' was written for large orchestra featuring the 'twins', trombone and oboe. I wanted something of this contrast in colour and timbre with this series, this one having an almost three dimensional vessel like form on the right contrasted with…
the colour blocks. They also have something of the Piero della Francesca paintings in Arezzo, an indirect inspiration.

David Ryan is an experienced artist based in the United Kingdom whose paintings have been featured in solo and group exhibitions nationally. Through his works, he endeavors to express structures, visual propositions through painterly language. Ryan does not seek unification in his compositions, rather, he allows certain frictions or interconnections to "vibrate a little more". He primarily creates with oils on canvas.
