About this artwork
The series promotes and explores the idea of humanity being united regardless of who is being painted. As we move forward in history humanity moves past the limitations of gender and race to see all people as equal and able to have a voice in society and be seen as beautiful. Just like flowers we are all beautiful and unique. The eye is like a finger print, it uniquely identifies us and yet it's unclear who the model is, where they come from, what…
sex they are, what religion they follow.
The colours in the painting are created by a spectrum glass. To create these kinds of colours the glass needs sun light and the photo shoots are all done outside.
All of the possibilities we can have as people are dazzling. As much as we may feel set on our paths today we can change. Children have a natural advantage that is often over looked. They always change, they are always surprised and happy to be surprised. The expressions of there eyes are like a book being written.

« People just want to be happy. We're all just a spec on a rock in space. »
b. 1987 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. For years David embarked on a journey participating in juried exhibitions around Ontario with self-taught paintings he had created. His educational breakthrough came when a framer introduced him to the Academy of Realist Art in Toronto, a school with the highest Realism standards using a curriculum based on the 19th Century French Academic system made famous by William Bouguereau.
This foundational training laid the groundwork for his transition into the exacting world of hyperrealism, where they meticulously capture the intricate details of their subjects, often taking weeks to complete a single piece. Looking to create a completely unique style of composition, in 2021 he started a series of paintings that show an eye, surrounded by flowers with a triangular prism light effect being shown. David Shepherd's command of hyperrealism has successfully propelled his work onto the international stage.
