This is a detailed black-and-white charcoal illustration titled "The Lion of Judah," created by artist David R. Zamudio. The drawing is rich with Christian and Jewish symbolism, centered around a powerful lion resting atop a stone block.
I was inspired to create this image while praying so I continued to build the drawing while observing images in my minds eye. The lion is depicted with a fierce, intense gaze, featuring highly detailed fur and a… thick mane.
The Sword: It holds a large sword in its mouth. The blade is inscribed with the text "The Word of God." The hilt of the sword features a Star of David and appears to be emitting flames as a spiritual glow.
Posture: One large paw with visible claws rests firmly on a stone block, suggesting strength and authority that the Lord has His beloved in His grip. The Stone Block represents Christ as the chief cornerstone
David Zamudio is a painter and multimedia artist with a foundational background in elite, Old School training at Washington University in St. Louis. His masterful technique blends advanced draftsmanship in charcoal and pastel with a “Neo-Renaissance” reverence for the human figure, combining analytical precision and rhythmic mark-making inspired by mentorship from legendary artists. Oscillating between structural realism and expressive abstraction, his works radiate dignity, intellectual rigor, and a living pulse. Zamudio’s portraits and illustrations convey monumental presence and narrative clarity, aiming to empower viewers and honor the beauty of structure, form, and artistic mastery.
