About this artwork
In this body of work she reflects on her childhood holidays where the beach acted as playground and where, wading the water’s edge, grey sands stretched for miles. These sands provided a canvas for mark-making… and messages to the gods. Concrete paddling pool, colourful windbreaks and high sea walls jostle for space and recognition; this is a place where fortifications were swept away and where gritty tea was drunk from plastic cups.
These paintings are a reference point for childhood summers and an exploration in paint on place, memory and loss.
