About this artwork
This painting was inspired by my travels around rural Western Australia. I have chosen a minimalist, aerial perspective to create fields of crops and wildflowers enclosed by fencing. Sitting in the window seat of a plane, I am always fascinated with the views below. The informal geometry of paddocks, road networks and lakes. I use acrylic as the drying time allows a quicker approach to my masking technique. I do not use thick paint but employ two…
and sometimes three thin coats to minimize brush marks.

Dean OCallaghan is an artist based in Australia whose paintings have been featured in solo and group exhibitions nationally. Inspired by American Minimalism and Russian Suprematism, he continuously explores new manners of employing hard-edge minimalist techniques. Although abstract, OCallaghan's compositions are not concerned with mathematical or color theories. Instead, they are based on his experiences of reality. He creates using acrylics on canvas.
