About this artwork
This is one of my dreamy stream of consciousness pieces: I simply started with the figure and added in a crown of morning glories, then the clouds emerging from the center of the flowers turned into an almost Japanese woodblock style. Normally I would make a somewhat realistic grass or foliage groundwork, but wanted more of a colorfield grounding for this one so it's more dreamy than literal. This feels like Spring!

Deborah Shavlik, trained in both fine art and industrial design, creates evocative acrylic paintings on wood panels, often incorporating three-dimensional elements and even music box mechanisms. She blends figurative surrealism with an appreciation for natural forms and metaphysical symbolism, allowing the wood grain and occasional hand-carved textures to interact with luminous layers of paint. Her works transport viewers into a poetic, dreamlike world, aiming to evoke hope, wonder, and a deep sense of connection.
