About this artwork
The image depicts a large black swan and is based on the solo dance 'The Dying Swan' by the world-renowned ballerina Anna Pavlova. With great flair, she embodies her performance and lets out a deep sigh; beneath her wings, thirteen (!) major music heroes appear, in the form of black swans, each of whom was of great significance in the history of music in their own respective musical fields. They are going on tour one more time, together in this historic… lineup. A select audience has gathered, invited for this very special concert. The people are dancing in and on Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, which is made visible by the piano keys in the wings of the large swan. Everyone in the audience is wearing headphones. They, and they alone, can hear this magical concert. We, as viewers, are merely invited to watch and may experience this as The Sound of Silence (Simon & Garfunkel). James Brown, John Lennon, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, Mozart, Elvis Presley and more.
Toyist Dejo is the visionary artist and founder of the influential, international art movement Toyism. As a versatile artist, active as both a painter and printmaker, he forges a remarkable synthesis in his work and life path between rigorous academic training, a profound fascination with world cultures, and sharp business acumen. This unique combination of qualities enabled him to bring Toyism to life: a vibrant, collaborative movement that breaks through the boundaries of individual authorship. Toyist's oeuvre is distinguished by exceptional craftsmanship, an explosive yet deliberate color palette, and a wealth of narrative symbolism. His visual language, seemingly playful and accessible, serves as a conduit for complex themes: the search for identity in a globalized world, the universal human condition, and the tension between childlike wonder and adult awareness. Aesthetic pleasure is never superficial; it is the carrier of meaning.
