About this artwork
SCIAPOID...
Neo-Figurative Painting. The Sciapoides are one-legged mythological ascetics with gigantic feet allowing them to protect themselves from the sun during meditation.
The artist used different brushes and knives to play with the material and the reliefs...
Very bright and positive canvas!
The Sciapods are mentioned in the Birds of Aristophanes22; they are known to Hecataeus, who placed them in Ethiopia, to Antiphon and the comic Archippos,… who made them live in Libya (the fragments23 provide no other indication); the Journey around Asia gives24:
Sciapods have very wide feet like geese
Ascetic: One who, either in a community or individually, practices prayer and moral perfection by leading an austere life, made up of spiritual exercises, mortification and abstinence. The one who imposes an austere life on himself, by educating and limiting his needs.
Very bright and positive canvas!
