About this artwork
When the first family computer arrives at home, a whole new world is discovered. The sound of the modem connecting to the internet, getting used to the keys of a keyboard, discovering the limited software available on the machine... And of course, video games are always present.
Having a computer at home, first for everyone and then just for me, allowed me to express myself beyond the page. I loved drawing as a child, but turning on the computer… led me to discover creative software: the early versions of Photoshop and tutorials on blogs. That was the beginning of my first steps as a graphic designer!
At the height of that time, I digitized my drawings, I made my creations on Photoshop for my high school newspaper, I was connected on MSN to send winks, I scrutinized the skyblogs of friends, I downloaded my music on eMule to add it to the iPod.

Denis Verdier's work initially revolved around a recurring theme: flowering blue cacti rooted in antique vases. An outsider in the plant world, the cactus intrigues with its contrasting spines and flowers. Thanks to its anatomy, it is able to survive in hostile deserts. Thus, the artist identifies with its unique capacity for adaptation.
Coming from a background where art wasn't a given, Denis Verdier always felt out of step with established norms (as exemplified by antique vases). He found in the cactus an echo of his own journey: that of a being who adapts, evolves, and ultimately flourishes. The color blue, omnipresent in his work, brings a note of serenity. It represents a gentle adaptation in a noisy era.
Beyond his personal history, his works question the place of the human in a society under tension, wishing to highlight a nature that persists where technology overflows.
