Figure painted in oil on stretched canvas. A series of layers using paint and oil bars to create a loose suggestive interpretation of a figure. This piece which started as a realistic rendition soon became something very different as I explored techniques and different mark making.

Denise Henley is an award-winning painter, who was born in Guyana and now resides in the United States. In her art, she expresses the complexities and beauty of the human form using an elegant simplicity. Henley’s portraits are created to evoke quiet and intimate contemplation. She mainly works using the mediums of oil, pastel and acrylic. She admits that though the human form is beautiful, it can be the most difficult of subjects and one she remains intrigued by.
