About this artwork
A small oil on canvas, made with a knife in shades of blue and purple. A subtle white trace enhanced with a touch of yellow. The upper part, dark, can take you to the depths of the night or the forest. A very soft foreground lets out the light. But, in fact, see what you want, it is you who create the universe you want. You can even place this canvas in another direction if you prefer, the signature is on the back of the canvas so as not to interfere…

Through abstract oil paintings, Denys Eustace explores a quest for meaning where philosophy and painting intertwine. His works, nourished by Taoist and Greco-Roman thought, question emptiness, infinity, and impermanence. He is not inspired by the canvases of the masters, but by their writings and research: his in-depth study of Kandinsky's Concerning the Spiritual in Art, for example, the questions posed by Klee and Mondrian, as well as the voices of Lao Tzu, Heraclitus, Pascal, and Shitao, guide his approach.
A self-taught painter, he complemented his training with art history courses at the École du Louvre and by giving lectures. His work has been featured in around one hundred exhibitions, both in France and abroad. He lives and works between Paris and Normandy.
