About this artwork
This work was done in oil and with a knife.
I love working with shades of blue, mainly Prussian blue and phthalo blue. This creation is the best example. Playing with blues, and to highlight and put them into perspective, whites, grays, and blacks. A few touches of Naples yellow make the background vibrate.
I don't have any specific plan or plan when I start painting. Just the idea of painting blueprints. I concentrate, with classical music playing… in the background, and then the painting takes shape, in dialogue with me. Once finished, the painting speaks to me, it carries me away, into a dream and meditation.
I rise from the depths to the light...

Through abstract oil paintings, Denys Eustace explores a quest for meaning where philosophy and painting intertwine. His works, nourished by Taoist and Greco-Roman thought, question emptiness, infinity, and impermanence. He is not inspired by the canvases of the masters, but by their writings and research: his in-depth study of Kandinsky's Concerning the Spiritual in Art, for example, the questions posed by Klee and Mondrian, as well as the voices of Lao Tzu, Heraclitus, Pascal, and Shitao, guide his approach.
A self-taught painter, he complemented his training with art history courses at the École du Louvre and by giving lectures. His work has been featured in around one hundred exhibitions, both in France and abroad. He lives and works between Paris and Normandy.
