About this artwork
In Subjective Wounds I present the human figure appearing suspended between emergence and dissolution. The portrait is neither a depiction of physical pain nor a narrative of trauma, but rather an exploration of the invisible marks left by experience, memory, and self-reflection.
The fragmented body seems to dissolve into layers of translucent color, suggesting the fragile boundary between the inner and outer self. Delicate gestures of the hands… become a silent language, expressing the attempt to understand, contain, or perhaps heal what cannot be directly seen. The face remains introspective and distant, turned inward toward a personal landscape shaped by emotional and psychological traces.
Soft whites, pale pinks, and muted violets create an atmosphere of vulnerability and quiet contemplation. The unfinished edges and fluid brushwork emphasize the transient nature of identity, revealing a person in a continuous state of becoming rather than a fixed presence.
Denys Molerio is a Cuban painter with a strong academic background, working primarily in figurative painting to investigate identity and human nature. He masterfully combines realism, symbolism, and subtle surrealist touches, using layered compositions and muted palettes to create atmospheres charged with introspection. His work evokes emotional depth, highlighting vulnerability, alienation, and the invisible battles within the human psyche, inspiring viewers to explore the complexities beneath the surface of self.
