About this artwork
This painting began as an invitation to move with colour... Emerald Flight shows a green parrot in full wing, flying across a luminous field of blended pigments. I worked oil on canvas, after laying in broad colour washes in acrylic paint first and then refining the bird’s gesture and wing rhythm. The background is intentionally loose — soft blooms of magenta, gold, olive and indigo that read like a remembered landscape rather than a mapped scene.…
That ambiguity lets the parrot feel both present and timeless.
For me this piece is about movement and the small, stubborn moments of freedom we find in daily life. It was inspired by walks in bushland and the bright, unexpected calls of native birds... I wanted the viewer to feel that lift — the breath you take when something familiar becomes newly beautiful. The painting is signed lower right.
