The explorational aspect of image-making and the experimental phase that the work is always going thru at some point is the most important part for the Artist in a sense that one always looks for the surprise or sometimes accident that opens up new avenues, but also the physical nature of Paint and any material that becomes part of that experimentation/exploration is in itself a factor that can lead the way and is an exciting integral part of the…
journey. In the end, the journey itself is the greatest stimulation and one actually don't want it to end or reach a destination, the Paintings are therefore never really finished they still have the vibration and capacity on their own to continue in the Eys of the viewer.

In his hometown of Cologne, Detlef Gotzens had the opportunity to work with masters of stained glass. He continued to study glass technology, and it wasn't until he moved to Canada that he began to incorporate painting into his work as well. The result is a collection of vibrant, vivid pieces that show his mastery of color. His abstract artworks are created using a mix of mediums, using acrylics, oils and pastels.
