About this artwork
I painted the first in this series, with my eyes shut, paint brush in my right hand, as my left hand traced the outline of my face, eyes, and lips. A self-portrait I later came to admit, which in my flow had accessed a hidden part of me. The most truthful, irrational part of me which , I didn’t want the world to see.
As I sat with the painting and other women found pieces of their own story in it, I was inspired to create the larger-than-life depictions… of the Many Faces of Womanhood, of which we have many.
My wish is that each imperfect painting reminds you of our humanity, reflects our shared experiences, where we are on our journey alone and cumulatively.

Danvers-Simmons' work, spanning acrylic, oil, pastels, and charcoal, reflects a lifelong passion rediscovered later in life. Drawing inspiration from nature and the depth of her personal experiences, she blends abstract and representational techniques with the unfiltered curiosity of a child, liberated from rules and formulas. Energized by music, her compositions pulse with a spirited energy, layering color and motion in a dynamic dance between artist and canvas. Her art serves as a conduit for emotional energy, blending empowerment, solace, self -exploration, and inspiration, creating an unspoken bond between the audience and the universal beauty and evolution of Mother Nature, life, and womanhood.
