About this artwork
This large painting is an acrylic abstract that sings off the page. Many of the principles of painting are included in the making of this painting. There is depth, varying shapes, repetition, hard and soft edges, and differing values. Tools used in the paint include a trowel, squidgy, paint brush, sponge, and plastic netting pressed on the canvas to create texture. I love the challenge of painting large. When I start a large painting, I paint… until it is done. After it is dry, I look at it again to see if anything needs slight corrections. Painting large requires stamina, physicality and large free sweeping movements. Before painting I choose the colors, and I have plenty of paint ready to complete the painting. I also have a spray bottle that is handy to keep acrylic paint from drying before the painting is completed. Brown and an ochre/sienna is used along with black and white. I don't include more than three colors and black and white to make the paintings cohesive
