About this artwork
With "La Soledad" (Solitude), I wanted to go beyond the traditional landscape or the simple representation of nature. My intention with this piece is to invite you to pause and inhabit the territory from within.
The soul of this painting lies in the bird's posture. By painting it with its back to the viewer, I sought to break down the distance that usually exists between the observer and the painting. I didn't want you to simply look at the bird… as a decorative element; I wanted you to sit on that same branch, to share its silence, and to gaze with it into the dense forest. It is an act of complicity through painting.
Ultimately, the title "Solitude" doesn't stem from sadness, emptiness, or abandonment. For me, being alone in the mountains is an act of dignity and a necessary pause. It is nature inhabiting itself in a resounding and vibrant fullness. It is an invitation to silence in order to connect with the true power of our land.

Didier Franco is a Colombian painter who from a young age has considered art as a way of life.
