About this artwork
The artist Dietmar Brixy refers to the radiance of the colors that make Brixy's pictures shine so incomparably. Red dominates the series, as a signal color that embodies sensuality and joie de vivre like no other. In 2021, red may also stand for new energy and optimism. More defensive colors such as blue, gray and delicate pastel tones take a back seat, cool the temperature and play into the space that opens up behind the red.
Like a theater curtain,… the red clears the stage for an almost illusionistic depth of space, as we have known it since the Renaissance. Natural horizons, mountain ranges or shorelines can be seen there. While the red is usually applied very strongly and pasty, behind it appear finely applied passages that look like impressionistic reflections in the water. The colors of the picture are reflected in the picture itself and thus quite literally fulfill the title of the new series.

Dietmar Brixy is an award-winning contemporary painter and sculptor from Germany. His works have been exhibited nationally and internationally, including in Turkey, the USA, Switzerland, Italy, Hungary, and Luxembourg.
For many years, Brixy has explored the tension between abstract action painting and gestural figuration. Nature is his central source of inspiration, not so much as a concrete motif, but as an experiential space of movement, rhythm, and depth.
His mostly large-format paintings are created with oil paint on canvas and are characterized by dynamic structures, multi-layered surfaces, and a strong spatial presence. Brixy is represented by galleries both in Italy and abroad and regularly participates in national and international art fairs. His works are held in public and private collections.
