In this still life, I wanted to capture a moment of calm—one that doesn't become loud, but rather seems still. The vibrant citrus fruits remind me of sunny days in the south, of early morning markets, of the simple wonder of color and light. Their reflection on the surface reinforces this feeling of presence and transience at the same time. The glass vessels behind them—transparent, almost weightless—represent what remains when everything else passes… away. The black background helps me to block out everything superfluous so that only the essential remains. When painting, I often seek precisely this state: a clear image that rests within itself. Perhaps this attitude is also reflected for the viewer—as an invitation to pause, to look, to breathe. For collectors, this work could be a silent companion: reserved but profound—an image that does not distract, but collects.
Dietrich Moravec, originally self-taught, maneuvered his way through old-master painting techniques to photorealistic oil, acrylic, and pastel painting. In his style, finely nuanced "color zones" meet sharp reality, creating precise still lifes that evoke a contemplative atmosphere in silence. His focus on everyday objects and their transient details invites us to reconsider the inconspicuous and pause silently in the flow of time.
