About this artwork
In this painting, the hero is no longer a savior but a troublemaker. After his visit, he doesn't repair the world: he marks it, he signs it, he subverts it. A figure of power, virtue, and order in the collective imagination, he becomes here a rebel, almost a vandal, who replaces heroic deeds with the illegal act of graffiti.
The work plays on this shift: the reassuring icon slides toward insolence, authority toward disobedience, the popular myth… toward a scene of transgression. The contrast between the clean, almost advertising-like aesthetic and the raw, dripping orange lettering creates an immediate tension. What was meant to protect becomes the one that leaves its mark and disrupts the hero's polished image.
Through this inversion, the painting questions our need for exemplary figures, but also the fragility of their image. Between pop culture, urban art, and subversion, this work offers a direct, ironic, and critical reading of our times.

Stephane Dillies’ paintings have been internationally exhibited, from France to Qatar. The artist, who lives and works in Brussels, takes photographs of trash he finds around the world and transforms them into paintings. The pieces are entitled using the GPS coordinates of the garbage. Oriented towards images of chaos, his art reflects modern landscapes which reveal the futility of society. A figurative painter, he also creates abstract works using oils and acrylics with successive layers of glazes.
