About this artwork
In this piece, Dilorom Mamedova reimagines Samarkand not as a static historical monument, but as a living, vibrating energy of light and color. Utilizing the architectural impasto technique, the artist layers thick palette knife strokes to create a mosaic-like structure that literally rises from the canvas surface.
The radiant yellow background captures the intensity of a sun-drenched afternoon, against which the violet and blue domes appear like… precious jewels set into the city's crown. Minimalist figures at the base emphasize the grand scale of the ancient walls. This museum-quality artwork is a perfect fit for a modern interior, serving as its primary conceptual centerpiece.
: Samarkand, modern expressionism, architectural impasto, golden hour, domes, abstract landscape, Central Asia, textured oil painting, Shah-i-Zinda, vibrant palette.
Dilorom Mamedova is a prominent master of modern impressionistic realism. A member of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan since 2003, she graduated from the National Institute of Arts and Design (studio of Rakhim Akhmedov). She currently chairs the Uzbekistan branch of the Professional Union of Artists of Russia. Artistic Method: Creator of the unique Mamedova Sculptural Relief Technique (Sculptural Impasto Genesis). Working in the alla prima style, she produces voluminous, tactile canvases that "build" architecture and light directly on the canvas. Awards: The "Shukhrat" Medal (2017) , "People's Diplomat" Medal (2022) , and "Turizm Fidoyisi" badge (2023). Exhibitions: Over 40 solo exhibitions across Uzbekistan, Russia, China, and Kazakhstan.
