About this artwork
Snegurochka, also Snegurka (Russian Снегурочка, to German snow girl, snowflake) is a Russian fairy tale character.
The best-known story in Russia from Alexander Afanasyev's collection of fairy tales is about an old married couple who wish for a child but never have one. One day, the couple watch children build snowmen. They decide to build themselves a child out of snow. It comes to life and is called Snow Maiden by the woman. The old people love… the girl like their own daughter and keep her with them. As spring approaches, the otherwise very affable and intelligent Snow Maiden becomes gloomy and disappears in the summer with the traditional leap over a campfire.
This fairy tale is one of my fondest memories of my childhood in Russia.
The picture is framed with a dark brown wooden frame.
