About this artwork

This work was inspired by my visiting the city of Rome where I had a chance to make quick studies of magnificent ancient sights of this eternal town. The work is not a literal landscape but rather an overall impression of the city with its imperial and enigmatic ruins and substructures.

« My art is a visual interpretation of events, states, and thoughts that excite, trouble, or upset me. »

Dmitri Albert, a Russian painter, draftsman, and printmaker, describes his art as rational, analytical, and sometimes ironic. While there is always a concept or sensation behind his figurative and abstract compositions, he does not feel that it is necessary for the viewer to grasp the meaning. Albert uses watercolors and inks on paper when drawing, and oils on canvas for his paintings.
