About this artwork
This painting belongs to my series exploring the cycles of life. A deep, vibrating blue engulfs the canvas like night water or an underwater world, while at its center a burst of red and crimson blooms outward — a flower, a wound, a heartbeat, all at once. Dark, serpentine lines wind through the composition like vines or roots, holding the explosion of color together at its core.
I build these surfaces with a palette knife, working thickly and intuitively,… letting the paint accumulate the way life itself accumulates experience — layer over layer, without a fixed plan. The blue speaks to depth, mystery, and the vastness surrounding us; the red at the center is life insisting on itself, refusing to be swallowed by the dark.
This work is about that tension — between the immensity that surrounds us and the small, fierce pulse of life that persists within it.
