About this artwork
"Dragon of a Thousand Lapis Lazuli" is the sister work to "Dragon of a Thousand Opals" and unfolds a concentrated, crystalline energy across its 40 x 40 cm surface. The work is deliberately reduced in its color palette: deep ultramarine, midnight blue, and black dominate the surface, while white emerges like a radiant center. The composition evokes the shimmer of lapis lazuli—that gemstone which, since antiquity, has been a symbol of royalty, truth,… and spiritual clarity. Here, the dragon appears not as a figure, but as an energetic essence, captured in layers of pure color. Its presence is both mysterious and timeless, an echo of myth and mineral.
Despite its small size, the picture unfolds an extraordinary radiance in the room: The clear contrasts inevitably attract the eye, while the depth of the blue tones lends calm and dignity.
Dominique Ludmann, an artist with roots in photography and craftsmanship, works masterfully with liquefied acrylic paints and her proprietary FLABS technique. Thermal and kinetic energy creates expressive works that represent the explosive union of body and mind. Her color-intensive compositions are a call for mental balance and empathy—an emotionally powerful statement for the united human being in a highly technological world. In addition, she reinterprets Asian Sumi-E painting in a contemporary way: using colored ink on paper, she creates works of quiet power and poetic balance – as a calm counterpoint to her expressive visual language.
