About this artwork
The work, titled "Maps," features an explosion of colors and abstract shapes against a blue-dominated background, reminiscent of the vastness of an ocean or sky. Strokes of yellow, red, green, white, and deep blue intertwine and overlap as if traces left on a living, ever-changing surface.
The title "Mappe" suggests a conceptual interpretation: these brushstrokes and textures could evoke emotional territories, interior landscapes, or mental journeys,… rather than actual geographical locations. These are not conventional maps, but rather maps of the soul or perception, fragmented, chaotic, yet with their own internal logic. "Mappe" could be intended to convey the idea that each individual carries within them complex trajectories, memories, and layered emotions. The artist seems to want to deconstruct the traditional map to show us how unstable and fluid what we seek to delimit and control is.
Donatella Chiocchi uses painting, primarily through the exclusive use of primary colors, starting from a passionate and profound self-taught path. Her technique lies in abstract, material-based art: material and color are visceral, gestural tools that give form to moods and interior landscapes, without following preconceived patterns. Each of her works is an emotional self-portrait: it conveys silence, dreaminess, nostalgia, and invites the viewer to immerse themselves in a delicate and poetic introspection.
