About this artwork
The work depicted is an abstract painting characterized by strong color contrast and an expressive use of texture. The composition is dominated by a large, dark, deep green rectangle in the center, which stands out against the vibrant, variegated background of acid green, yellow, and touches of blue. At the center of the dark rectangle is a sort of lighter, rectangular "window," in softer tones with light vertical streaks that convey a sense of movement… and depth.
The outer edge of the painting, with its vivid, vibrant colors, contrasts sharply with the darker, more compact interior, creating a sense of visual tension. The painting technique seems to involve overlapping layers, scratches, and drips, suggesting a process of building and then "eroding" the image. This work could be interpreted as a reflection on the contrast between interior and exterior, light and darkness, oblivion or memory.
Donatella Chiocchi uses painting, primarily through the exclusive use of primary colors, starting from a passionate and profound self-taught path. Her technique lies in abstract, material-based art: material and color are visceral, gestural tools that give form to moods and interior landscapes, without following preconceived patterns. Each of her works is an emotional self-portrait: it conveys silence, dreaminess, nostalgia, and invites the viewer to immerse themselves in a delicate and poetic introspection.
