About this artwork
This work features an intense and dynamic composition, dominated by a dark red background. Red represents love, but in this case it's a deep wine red, a suffocated love, an imploded love. Against this background, clear and lively graphic elements stand out: diagonal green lines cross the canvas from left to right, lending a sense of movement and direction to the composition. Some of them seem to "scratch" the surface, suggesting energy and tension.… The yellow circles are a denser element; they clearly recall emojis, particularly stylized smileys, which seem to suggest various expressions that materialize in a final sad emoji.
The painting is deliberately two-dimensional, the smileys represent the decline of speech, the inability to communicate and to love.
Donatella Chiocchi uses painting, primarily through the exclusive use of primary colors, starting from a passionate and profound self-taught path. Her technique lies in abstract, material-based art: material and color are visceral, gestural tools that give form to moods and interior landscapes, without following preconceived patterns. Each of her works is an emotional self-portrait: it conveys silence, dreaminess, nostalgia, and invites the viewer to immerse themselves in a delicate and poetic introspection.
