About this artwork
This work was done while I was taking my master's exams in philosophy. I was on the question of the problem of evil and the quarrel between convinced Christians and defenders of natural religion. This canvas had remained for several days with this white background, and I then decided to add a touch of red that I spread in one movement. This gave this head of Jesus that I think I see, everyone is free to see what they want. I find this work very mystical…
and very talkative about religion in general. The bright red recalls the blood shed in his name, and the white the desired purity. The scratches come to recall the fragility of this presumed purity.

Alexis Gouguec, trained in philosophy, is also an autodidact with a passion for painting. His style oscillates between the abstract and the figurative, mainly using the knife as a tool to give volume and texture to his works. The philosophical themes of necessity and chance are explored by Gouguec, his works sometimes revealing faces and eyes, reflections of pareidolia. Thus, his works express the eternal need to paint and contemplate complex concepts in a new and colorful way.
