About this artwork
In 1995 I lived in a place where a heroin dealer operated nearby. I watched people struggling with addiction walk past — with dead eyes and bodies marked by hard lives. Some of them died from overdoses. They were found on the parking lot.
I felt that these people did not receive enough help. Perhaps they were not always ready to accept it — but that is exactly why it is crucial that help is available when motivation arises.
For the base of the work,… I used three municipal garbage bags. On them, I painted portraits of drug addicts —
