About this artwork
Oscar Wilde once said, "I spent the morning putting a comma in and the afternoon taking it out".
After 3 years sitting in my studio, I decided to touch up this piece, tidy the white, soften the blacks, enhance the colour. I call it a good edit.
A slight change in line and colour can make all the difference to the impact of a piece.
I adore bowties. They are playful and fun but also serious and show a level of dexterity and concentration. It's something… people remember about me (besides being the big, loud, american artist fella) and a look I like.
Sometimes what we wear defines us. I think of wearing a tie like wearing a uniform and there is a protective power in wearing a uniform. The uniform shields your true self from prying eyes and people with ill intentions.
