Artistically, women are often portrayed as frail and sensual. However, growing up in Southern Nigeria, these were not the kind of women I saw. I was surrounded by strong, well heeled women who hoisted themselves by their waist wrappers, formed social associations, grew businesses, supported communities and families, all the while facing daily challenges with fierceness.
I hoped to pay homage to these women with this work. It tells of one of the… socialgroups formed by these women to foster their physical, social and financial wellfare. Despite their limited resources and strength, they find ways to achieve great things
This work is done painstakingly using ballpoint pen on paper. It is available for transfer based on the buyers preference.
Ebubechukwu Ogbuagu, an artist and doctor, couples his deep understanding of human anatomy with ballpoint pen artistry. His realistic, figurative portraiture conveys stark narratives, balancing classical realism with Afro-contemporary themes, all rendered through painstaking multilayered pen strokes. Ebube's large-scale pieces pulsate with the silent echoes of black masculinity and vulnerability, demanding introspection and challenging assumptions.
