About this artwork
The journey to a historic fishing village on the North Sea inspired the artist to create this work. It shows the captain of a fishing boat. A fisherman's working day begins in the evening. At dusk they go out to sea. They reach their fishing grounds in the dark. When the nets are cast, the fishermen take a break. Then it's time to wait. They drink tea and check the nets every 45 to 60 minutes until it's time to hoist them back on board. Fishing and…
crab catching is guaranteed to be a backbreaking job, the downsides include the physical exertion and being at the mercy of wind and weather - the job is a challenge, especially in the cold winter. Added to this is the violence of the sea. But ships or cutters usually trigger a wanderlust, a desire for adventure in the midst of wind and waves and to experience the endless expanse. Perhaps a colorful mix of transfigured seafaring romance and pirate stories.
