About this artwork
60x81cm. 2021
Mixed technique (Acrylic and oil painting). Portrait on canvas of the actor Bella Lugosi in the role of Dracula from the cinema of the 50s. The contrast is particularly interesting between the image taken from the film in black and white and the flow of bright pink color. This color creates a feeling of obsession that can bring to mind the monomania, that of blood here for Dracula. Without mentioning it directly, which would be much… less interesting. Note the hand separated from the rest of the character suggesting a double personality or someone else hiding behind the curtain. But then, who is manipulating? would it be Bella, Dracula or this bewitching rose?

« I think that art doesn't belong to us, it's not even our ideas that cross our mind but the one of a collective history. »
Edmond Li Bellefroid is a painter and draftsman based in France whose works have been exhibited nationally and in Germany. He describes his artistic vision as being a fragment of history and a point of view. Bellefroid approaches his subjects in a fantastical and mysterious manner, conveying metaphysical or philosophical meaning, sometimes in a playful or erotic manner.
