About this artwork
This piece evolved from an old painting which is at the bottom most layer of the piece and no longer visible. I had painted on a highly textured paper and using a sander, I was able to expose some of the texture lying underneath the painted layers. I kept what were the most interesting areas to me and built up the composition from there. I was very taken with the abstract portraits of the artist, James Esber, from Brooklyn, New York, at the time…
I painted this work. I wanted to find a way to convey feeling through abstraction in this painting.
