About this artwork
A contemporary work that confronts the sharp contrast between urban culture and wild nature. In this painting, female figures dressed in modern elegance are situated within an open rural landscape, sitting on a wooden fence that separates the domesticated space from the natural realm.
The composition emphasizes the foreignness of the figures in this environment - their sharp heels and polished attire stand in absolute contrast to the wild vegetation,… exposed earth, and open skies. The warm colors of the field - greens, browns, and golds - clash with the cool, artificial colors of the urban dress.
The figures are positioned as benevolent invaders in the natural space, raising questions about identity, belonging, and our place in the natural world. The title "Heels and Roots" deepens the dichotomy - between what is temporary and artificial (heels) and what is eternal and natural (roots).
