About this artwork
Here you can already see that I have subjected the entire face to the strokes of my pen. The finer the Rotring pen, the more I was impressed with the result. It became more and more of a challenge between my impatience and the time it took to create a work and the detailed strokes to complete the drawing. The Rotring pen became the bridge between my impulsive impatience and the time-consuming care that each stroke required. In a rapid creative process…
that in later drawings increasingly focused on the essence of the face or motif and abstracted everything superfluous, a striking, concentrated aesthetic emerged. "Man with Hat", a face without eyes, sends a clear message to the viewer: what lies ahead may be too terrible to look at.
