About this artwork
Evolution is an unusual sculpture made from the natural wood of a tree root.
It belongs to the series of Ostreids, which expresses the complexity of life in its search for a form most adapted possible to survival, as well as the wisdom of the spirit applied to the transformation of matter, the Ostréids being imaginary shape-shifting beings coming from elsewhere to take refuge in earthly materials and try to adapt.
Unfinished, it expresses the… evolution of humanity through femininity, with this wild and ethnic side taking us back to a prehistory already imbued with the aesthetic and spiritual roots specific to humanity.
While the root wood drawing the curves was sculpted with a gouge, the face and light parts of the body were worked with superfine wood cellulose paste then tinted with acrylic and then varnished.
