About this artwork
PEGASUS (diptiche)
MARVELOUS REALISM
I have found myself relating with the term “Paradise”, from an idealist’s representation of “Paradise” to an everyday perception of smaller “paradises” of my heroes and their dreams.
Colourful flowers, tropical gardens, fabrics of flamenco dancers, andalucian horses, magic , spices…Culture of Andalucia is a mixture of Iberic, Roman, Visigoth, Arabic and Spanish roots.
The style that I paint this series can be… called Marvellous Realism, I combine figurative painting with decorative elements, with ornaments. Each painting is a combination of life and artifacts, a real girl silhouette and Moroccan décor or tile, real flowers and decorative ornament on fabrics, or tropical garden surrounding a fantasy horse. My marvellous realism It is not a fantasy, it is not a fiction, it is combination of a very original figurative and magical decorative context all together. Pegasus was a mythical horse of the ancient world - why not to paint it here?

« My objective is that my audience gets the chance to feel the energy and beauty of each and every figure. »
Elena Done is a painter and printmaker based in Spain. She recounts that becoming an artist was born from the feeling of insignificance in the vast universe. As a psychologist and an artist, Done's profound interest and love of humanity are translated through expressive figurative compositions. Her multi-layered pieces are created using oils and India ink on canvas or cardboard.
