About this artwork
There is something almost theatrical about rhododendrons. When I painted these Red and White Rhododendron Flowers, I wanted to capture the feeling of a garden just before evening, when colors deepen, contrasts sharpen, and the blooms seem to glow against dark foliage. Velvety reds and cool whites unfold in expressive, confident brushstrokes, like light falling onto a natural stage of leaves and buds.
In an interior, this piece brings warmth, depth,… and quiet drama. The rich reds create presence, while the whites and fresh greens keep the composition luminous and balanced. It works beautifully above a sofa, sideboard, or bed, especially in spaces with wood, leather, or darker tones. This is a painting that naturally becomes a focal point, anchoring a room with cultivated elegance and emotional intensity.
Elena Murtazin works in oil painting and silk painting, building on her deep background in applied arts and textile design. She weaves expressive realism with abstract elements, using bold gestural marks and layered textures in oils, and harnessing the softness and unpredictable flow of dyes on silk. Her evocative pieces balance structure with spontaneity, and channel nature not as mere subject but as an emotional, energetic presence—each artwork ultimately conveying a quiet intensity and an expansive sense of inner connection to the world.
