About this artwork
Roots is the first work in the "Roots" series, which recounts the experience of uprooting: war, migration, loss of home. In this painting, I wanted to capture the intensity of roots as a symbol of strength and connection to the earth. Through bold brushstrokes and contrasting colors, I express the struggle and beauty hidden in the intertwining of life. This work will bring vibrant energy and emotional depth to any space, inviting the viewer to reflect… on their origins and their connection to themselves.
Elidon Mucaj, a self-taught painter born in Vlorë and active between Tuscany, Milan, and Berlin, primarily works in oil on canvas, exploring painting as an instinctive and material medium. He adopts an experimental and vigorous approach, favoring intense colors, palette knives, and forceful brushstrokes to reveal emotional tensions and the power of the unconscious. His works convey a powerful sense of vulnerability, inner conflict, and hope, always striving to transform human pain and anguish into a living, authentic, and moving form.
