About this artwork
"Harbor Evening" contains flashes of images that recall the New York harbor in summertime. Patterns and grids. Albert captures the flood of sensations in a quilt-like painting interposing various homages and visual languages (a Ruisdael tree, a bit of a Matisse-like landscape, a lushly painted grid, etc.). Wishing to add another layer of sensory experience Albert printed her field research photos of a mossy dock and black water on linen and suede,…
which she then sewed directly onto the painted canvas.

« Paradoxically, the very nature of these works is entropic, even as they try to capture and order. Everything: paint, fabric, and all materials have a stored energy, an intrinsic vibrancy. »
