About this artwork
A yellow expanse, as bright yellow as a rubber duck; on top of that, a network of lines drawn with a black acrylic pencil, which not by chance reminds one of a child's game. This combination of minimalistic space, scribbling and photorealistic elements painted in oil is typical of DeElaine's work.
Mom, P, child 1 and I ask themselves: Which egg goes with which egg warmer? And the viewer puzzles along, follows the lines with his eyes until he has… finally reached the right little hat.
The hunt for the right “eggshell”, as DeElaine calls her work, is rewarded with a colorful floral pattern that evokes the flower power period of the 1970s.

Ellen DeElaine is a painter, draftsman, and printmaker based in Germany whose works have been exhibited nationally, as well as in South Korea, Austria, England, France, the Netherlands, and the United States.
