In this work, the image is not predetermined — it emerges in space.
The face dissolves into individual elements: gaze, line of the lips, movement of color — and recombines itself, already as a state.
The focus is on a figure in limbo.
She neither moves nor remains still — she is present.
The red line of the lips becomes both a boundary and a point of attraction.
The focus is shifted outwards — independent of the body, as pure perception.…
The green lines do not appear as a shape, but as currents.
The space loses its stability towards the bottom and opens up.
The work maintains a state of in-betweenness —
a moment in which form is not yet defined, yet is already perceptible.

Ellen Frischbutter is a trained psychologist whose artistic path gradually became central to her practice. Her early work with mandalas explored non-verbal expression and intuitive perception, forming the basis of her visual language.
She later turned fully to painting, working with watercolor, acrylic, and finally oil, which allowed her to develop layered surfaces and spatial depth. The process of building a painting in visible strata remains essential to her approach.
Her works arise from inner imagery, memory fragments, and atmosphere rather than direct narration. Figurative elements often merge with expressive abstraction, creating open compositions that invite interpretation.
Ellen Frischbutter is a member of the ASM Club – International Artists Association and the VAA – Visual Artists Association. Shortlisted for VAA Art500 | Momentum Programs | Preferred Artist.
