About this artwork
This painting came from the sights and sounds of living in Oxford. Beautiful old buildings combined with the river Thames create a romantic mood and an endless series of impressions. For me, the River Thames is the true centre of Oxford, but the churches and buildings are ever present. This painting expresses my attempt to feel accepted in Oxford, and make it my home. There is a longing in the painting, and a harmony which is only slightly broken…
by the efforts of everyday life. This painting has many layers of very textured acrylic and oil paint which are subtly revealed through the colours. The painting can either be framed or hung directly on the wall.

« Traditional painting techniques are only tools to express something deeper. An inner voice can be expressed in color and form; my artistic process is learning to hear that voice clearly. »
Ellen Hausner's works of art are explorations of the ephemeral and unseen. The sense of sacred permeates her pieces, as she delves into the themes of transformation, transmutation, and evolution. Moving between abstraction and the figurative, a meditative state of mind is of the utmost importance and acts as a starting point for Hausner's artistic process. She paints with India ink, acrylics, oils, and watercolors on paper and canvas, using traditional techniques as a base for each piece.
