About this artwork
This painting is one of a series of four (see 'Cambridge', 'Cambridge II', and 'Oxford Canal') where Ellen worked with principles of cubism to break down shapes and colours in the cities where she was travelling. She did not paint this on site: she took pictures and spent a lot of time looking, but then went home and invented the paintings.
