About this artwork
A minimal study of movement and contrast. A gush of wind lifting a form "off" the canvas. The contrast between the monochromatic base and the upper canvas from red to off white is broken up by the etched lines; a suggestion of a breeze brushing by the canvas.

« There is a thread that runs through my life connecting all the events and professions I have pursued. Dance, music, and writing were all strands that fused into the whole which for me is abstract painting. »
Ellen Shire is a former member of the New York City Ballet, a successful writer and illustrator of children's books, as well as an abstract painter. Ms. Shire states that her life is defined by art. Rather than just 'making a picture, the New York based artist creates an experience, and a balance, between light, space, movement, and simplicity. She works using a number of mediums, including oils, acrylics, gouache, graphite, and paper mâché on canvas.
