About this artwork
On certain occasions, Enrique González deliberately chooses to hide parts of the painting behind a structure—a sort of gilded wooden frame—that acts as a threshold between the visible and the veiled. These structures contain slots of varying dimensions that hint at, but do not fully reveal, generating a tension between what is shown and what is hidden. This formal decision responds to a desire to preserve the mystery, the same mystery that, throughout… the history of art, has driven millions of people to travel to the world's great museums in the hope of coming face to face with the inexplicable.
« With my works, I want to convey a sense of peace and mystery, allowing each person interpret my work as they see fit. »
Enrique González is an experienced painter and printmaker based in Spain whose works have been exhibited nationally, in Belgium, Brazil, France, Australia, and England. He describes his compositions as being the result of a mixture of influences and memories, as well as a passion for perfection, art, light, and shadow. In his artistic process, González allows his intuition to guide him. He primarily creates with oils and gilding on wood.
