About this artwork
The painting depicts an abstract, almost mythical representation of a female figure embedded in a cocoon-like space. The figure—only vaguely recognizable by its pale face and dark hair—seems to be wrapped in a network of fine lines stretched over her like protective or restrictive threads. The surroundings pulsate in vibrant red, interspersed with gestural white markings reminiscent of nerve pathways or energy flows. The classic egg tempera technique… lends the work a dense, luminous color scheme and a subtle complexity. The scene evokes themes such as transformation, withdrawal, and security, but also confinement and exposure. The woman in the cocoon can be read as a metaphor for a phase of transition—a moment between rigidity and new life.
« Diving into shaky, pulsating textures, densities and clearings, delicate networks and intense color conglomerates. »
Erika Seywald is a painter and draftsman based in Austria whose works have been widely exhibited nationally, as well as in the United Arab Emirates, Poland, Germany, and Bulgaria. She describes her art as growing out of a creative metamorphosis of shapes, colors, lines, points, and surfaces. Seywald's distinctive artistic techniques create pictures with figural forms, with echoes of nature, landscapes, and abstract designs.
